The DCH x JSD Studio
The Project
The DCH x JSD Studio, is a boutique shared workspace that merges the line between design, craft, and community. What was once a dull commercial office is now a timeless, soulful environment. A modern atelier for builders, designers and dreamers alike.

In the heart of downtown Tumalo, just steps from The Bite, the Tumalo Cider Company, and our Tumalo Coffee House, stands a space that reimagines what a workplace can be. The DCH x JSD Studio was born from collaboration, a shared vision between Deschutes Custom Homes and Julanda Shannon Design, to transform a plain commercial shell into something layered, inspired, and deeply personal.
What began as a landscape of brown carpet tiles, beige walls, and fluorescent lights has been reborn into something unexpected - warm, moody, and full of creative energy. Every material feels deliberate: walnut cabinetry grounds the space, black marble adds weight and permanence, while hand-made zellige tile and brass accents catch the morning light. Corduroy wallpaper and plastered walls invite touch and texture, unfolding slowly the longer you linger.
At its core, this is a shared workspace but it feels more like a creative pause, a place where ideas take shape and boundaries are reimagined. A custom coffee bar welcomes guests (and turns into a true bar-bar after hours), private offices and a large conference room flow into an open area where ideas are exchanged.
The palette is rooted in timelessness: marble, brass, leather, and wood - materials chosen for their ability to patina and hold memory. Art Deco accents, soft velvet furnishings, ornate moldings, and burnished metal details evoke old-world glamour, reimagined through a modern lens. It's a space that feels both grounded and transportive, where work doesn't feel like work, and inspiration feels ever-present.
This studio was more than a renovation; it was a creative dialogue. Deschutes Custom Homes brought craftsmanship and care to every inch, translating vision into form with precision and heart. Feeling grateful to share this space with such a talented team, one that values artistry as much as architecture.
For those who step inside, the DCH x JSD Studio isn’t just a place to work, it’s a space that invites you to create, connect, and be inspired. Stop by and say hi :)
